So who's taking JLPT next Sunday?

#1
I'm taking the n3 for a second time, although the first was really a practice run. I think I have a pretty good handle on the kanji now, but I've been neglecting 文法, so that's going to be my focus for the remaining week.

I'm in for N2 in Boston. I just barely failed last year. Hopefully I learned a little in the intervening year! (Unfortunately, 'learning something' and 'learning what is on the test' is not always the same, and I'm not studying to the test at all.)

My biggest problem was that I didn't -finish- the test... I couldn't read -fast- enough, so I only completed some 60-70% of the various written sections. My listening comprehension was just barely passable. Reading speed, correct kanji recognition, and listening comprehension have all improved, which is what I've been working on - but my vocabulary hasn't really been increased much. (Hopefully it hasn't shrunk... somewhat of a worry since only a small fraction of my vocabulary is in my SRS.)

I'll be taking my first official test (N4) at 福井大学. I'm pretty sure that I'll pass coz I've already finished Genki 1,2, 皆の日本語 1,2, 1200 kanjis from RtK1, in addition to finishing 1 course and a half off intensive Japanese and some other miscellaneous studying methods...

You should have signed up for N3. Narrow defeat feels better than hollow victory.

I'm taking N1 at 三重大学. It's kind of crept up on me, and my studying has been not as dogged as it should have been since I've moved to Japan. My speaking has gotten a ton better, but my reading level has stayed the same. Over my winter break I'm going to try to get back on that horse of studying new material on most days.

I'm at the point with studying that the slog is starting to get to me, and that's really bad because I know just pushing through for just another 60 days would allow me to finish up most of the formal studying I want to do. I'm up to frame 1600 in Heisig, and at lesson 112 out of 143 in Kanji in Context. I can read about 1800 kanji right now.

That said, it was never my plan to pass N1 next week anyway. I'm taking it to gauge my current level, and to get more experience taking the test. I passed N2 in 2008.

N1 in Sendai. Took my first JLPT (N2) in July and passed that, so now I guess I'm just planning to get a feel for the N1.

The exam for me is not a CHALLENGE, as you said. It's more like a "required" achievement that I would like to show to my professor. In addition to that, I'm trying my best to have a concrete understanding of everything I'm studying that's why I keep on re-studying the same things utilizing various resources. That being said, I can't imagine that I can pass the N3 exam with the knowledge I have!

Taking N1 in Sendai, too. Trying to remember to bring an analog watch since there wasn't a clock in the class last time!

N3 in Milan. To be true I already passed the N3 last year, but with a meager 104/180. So I've decided to take it again. Go figure. Big Grin

Me too! Maybe I'll see you there Smile

I have mostly been preparing for this by slacking off and playing video games, so we'll see how it pans out though, haha.

N1 in Nagoya... at 愛知学院大学 日進 campus... a royal PITA to get to, to be honest, and a waste of a perfectly good Sunday afternoon, but I paid for it. I don't think there's a way to get there easily from 岡崎.

I just passed N2 this summer, and I don't think there's a chance in hell that I'll pass N1. But it's no biggie. I'm not going to obsess over the JLPT anymore. Doing that messed up my approach to studying the language, and left big holes in my skill set.

N5 in New York. I must be the most junior of all people who post here Smile
Although, according to the confirmation letter, there are about 60-80 other people taking N5 in New York. And about the same numbers taking each other level. N2 is the most popular.
I am freaking out Smile After seven months of classes in the Japan Society, feels like I learned so much, but in reality even N5 is going to be a challenge. I am good at Kanji and grammar, but lacking the vocabulary. Two days to go - we'll see!
