Loss of passion for Japanese.. help!

Here's a fairly easy challenge for you (one I intend to complete myself at some point), learn Kimigayo (君が代) off by heart Smile

It's short enough that it should be fun.

A good motivator would be to go back and look at your notes, and what you were studying when you started. Find the first book or manga you ever read in Japanese, and read it again. I do this from time to time, and it's such a thrill to think "When I first read this, I understood maybe 1/4 of it, with a lot of effort and concentration. Now I understand most of this, and it's an easy read!"
Sometimes I think the tiredness and de-motivation are a result of feeling like you haven't progressed. Going back and seeing how far you've actually come can be really inspiring.

Also, I might steal some of the advice in this thread, to maybe start a new activity in Japanese for two weeks. Right now I'm trying so hard to finish KO2001, and it's not fun. It's a struggle, and I keep counting the days until I finish. Maybe it's time to just put it down, and have some fun reading for two weeks instead.

Eh, I wouldn't really recommend that song. Even among Japanese citizens, many people don't like it because they view it as a symbol of Japanese militarism.

I've taught for about three years in Japan, and sometimes teachers refuse to stand for the national anthem (usually it makes the vice principle very angry). I've also been told that one of the reasons schools invite government officials and people from various educational organizations to their ceremonies (opening, closing, graduation) is to pressure teachers into standing during 君が代.

I think learning this song would be more fun, and will work on it a bit more seriously after the JLPT,

(Well, perhaps 'serious' is not the right word for singing along with that song. 'fun' though Wink )
