Learning Japanese with Japanese videogames.

Well that is kinda what i was planning to do, i have good DSLR camera and it takes good photos of games so i could make screenshots no probs... bit time consuming though... plus i wouldnt be any closer to understanding it. Grabbing an english script and a japanese script would be good, then as someone suggested put screen shots of memorable mments in a srs. The other problem with that is you will eventually just be associating the sentences with the picture not the text... so thats even more time spent copying the text from the shots? A japanese script would be golden...

I've got some sentences from FF7, what I did was play through with an emulator and whenever something came up that I wanted to put into anki, I just took a screenshot, looked up the words then put them into anki.

You don't really need a Japanese script, you can just look up the words using the handwriting recognition deelly... It isn't that hard and to be honest it's good practice =D

I mite just do that then, i defo agree that adding them in manually yourself is good practice. Did you just use an english script to understand what was going on or did you translate?

I plan to be finished with RTK within the month so maybe its better attempted then, i can give it more time and i will know more of the kanji obvs.

This sounds like the best way to go about learning from the game.

That's a good idea because it's a lot faster to look up kanji by keyword instead of drawing them.

Works for me...

I like the thing where you can personalize the names =D

It seems a bit temperamental for me. Sometimes it works, and sometimes it doesn't.

I have three words for you: スパーロボット大戦。

So anyway, this method worked for me. Started studying Japanese when I was about 16. Was raised on anime and video games. My conversational Japanese was excellent and got all the way to 2級, before I started running into trouble while working as customer service rep for a Japanese client. 尊敬語 and 謙譲語. Go figure lol.

It even came to a point when my supervisor called me into his office and said something along the lines of 「お客様は友達じゃない、分かってんのかぁ!机に戻って尊敬語について勉強しろ!」

After this e3 I decided I want a Wii U console japanese version.
I planned all the details but surfin' a bit I just discovered that for some titles online play is not allowed out of Japan.

If any of you guys has got an imported console or know how to solve this (VPN, maybe?)ぜひ, おしえてください

I don't have a Wii U, but I've got a Japanese 3DS and I have no problems playing pokemon X/Y and Mario Kart 7 online. I guess it depends on a few factors, namely if the game you want to play has been released outside of japan at all.

Otherwise a VPN might work I guess, but you would be getting a terrible ping...

Thank you very much, you helped me a lot; I've searched all the Internet and didn't find almost anything.
I mailed Nintendo, too, but still got no reply.

That's a pity I can't play Monster Hunter 4 online but if I can play the other games it's fine anyway.
