As far as I know してみる is used when we 'try doing something'. And just ~てみる has the meaning of meaning of trying out something.
例: 友達に電話をしてみる。 try calling a friend.
例: 店員にきいてみる。 try asking the shop assistant.
Now the confusion I have is with this -> 試。 This kanjis gives the verbs ためす and
こころみる。
As per the dictionary both of these verbs seem to have almost same meaning as well.
ためす means 'to try out, to test, to attempt'; while こころみる has the meaning of 'to try, to test'.
I am totally confused which is used when since they all three seem to have the same meaning. The first when is actually used with ~te forms of the verbs and the other two are verbs that also from the same kanji!
Summary: Confused between usage of してみる, こころみる, ためす.
Also would 試してみる and 試みてみる have any meaning?
