This might sound a bit strange... but does anyone know of a vocabulary list of sex/bedroom related terms? I don't mean raunchy words, I'm just looking for the Japanese equivalent of English sex terms (in the name of sexology ).

Sex words are surprisingly easy to pick up on-the-go as you need them. Because it's usually a fun and memorable situation when you're learning them, so you remember them without much effort. Not to mention, that way you get the nuance of each word pretty well.

A list doesn't seem so necessary, though I'm certainly not against the idea.

If it is simply vocabulary you are after then a good science / comprehensive dictionary would be all that you need. How many words are you thinking of looking up... Can we expect an erotic Anki deck in the near future? Also what is wrong with learning these words in context Tell us more.

Edit: Ahh... I see you are from Belgium but Tzadeck is from Kinki. No wonder s/he finds it easy to learn things on context.

I concur with you (and can confirm) that learning some of these words on-the-go is fun, but I would like to widen my knowledge on the subject. An actual list seems nice, but I would also be glad if anyone could point out a useful Japanese resource on the subject. I don't think a dictionary is very useful in this case as dictionaries do not contain all these terms and often lack context for words like that. Therefore a list or text on the actual subject might be more useful.

I recently came to the conclusion that there is no need to look for such words. They find you! For instance, I was defining a word in my deck, and what I found was this.

赤線 あかせん (n,abbr) もと，売春目的の特殊飲食店街のあった地域．
売春 ばいしゅん (n,vs,adj-no) 〈スル〉 女が代金をとって，男と性交すること．
性交 せいこう (n,vs,adj-no) sexual intercourse

And this was the once totaly innocent sentence I was looking it up for: 文書の赤線の部分を削除してください。

A vocabulary list is not going to give you context. A GOOD dictionary will give you all the words you need. Sexual terminology ranges from the clinical to the obscene, with dollops of rapidly evolving slang. Getting the nuance wrong, especially when it is not your native language, is extremely grating to listeners bc sex is such an emotionally charged topic.

Hmmm, if you browse sites that list Japanese adult videos for download, then you can pick up a lot of interesting words from the titles of the videos. I mean, the cover of each video usually has like a paragraph of text all over it. They have words for lots of things that don't have words in English :p

On the topic of vocab lists. Watch Japanese porn. Seriously. When it comes to bedroom play, people tend to derive their social scripts (what they should do, in what order, what they should say, etc) in bed, from porn.

can't sorry... too gross. not the girls, the guys. they're always kneading dough, like little boys who don't know what to do. and the fascination with pubic hair and that lotion stuff is so disgusting. and those awful little toys... oh and that one giant grey massage thing they always have... what the f is that? is that thing ubiquitous in japan because it's in every movie?

i swear the reason j-girls like western guys is just because we dont do that crap.

Riiiiiiiiight, because porn produced in a country always shows a perfectly accurate representation of said country's sexually active populace

Seriously though, to me it seems like both kinds of porn are, for the most part, directed at a similar audience, but intended to achieve a different effect. Western porn shows the sex-deprived insecure male a well-endowed sex god he secretly wants to be like (or a fat ugly middle-aged dude who still somehow gets laid way more than you do). Japanese porn shows the sex-deprived insecure male a shy inexperienced geek he can relate to. Although there are exceptions in both cases (at least, I think I remember seeing some; can't remember the last time I watched anything that wasn't girl-on-girl ).

I think you can find massive amounts of unappealing stuff in both markets, but it's not representative of everything. You could just as easily say "I can't watch American porn because I don't like seeing crack-addicted 37-year-olds being roughed up by some hackneyed, self-absorbed chump in a gagging, drool-laden mess." Or maybe you could take the argument outside of porn and say "I can't watch anime because of sailor uniforms and cat ears."

Anyway, I don't really agree that it's a great idea to watch porn to learn vocab, unless you watch a lot of it already and just made a switch over to JAV. You'd be better off watching interviews with the actresses or browsing titles and descriptions on DVD sites like somebody already suggested. Failing that, you could try an erotic novel or some エロ漫画 :lol:
