"Kanden" [Suppose that's some company providing/producing electricity] publically announced directly after the nuclear accident [in Fukushima] the forecast of the highest demand in summer [of electricity]

Not sure about the rest, though.. Something happens at least with that forecast (を): the available kilowatts will be safed (節電).

関電 is Kansai Electric Power Company.

Thanks! I was having trouble with the "15% Energy saving bit; I couldn't relate that properly to the rest of the sentence. That を was confusing me. Thanks a lot!

I know I should do my homework by myself, but I was having a hard time with that bit. I couldn't make sense of it even though I knew all the words and all the grammar constructions. It's just the separation of the clauses and odd use of particles that got me(might not be "odd" usage, but I sure as hell couldn't make sense of it).

I thought it meant:

In June the estimated peak demand announced directly after the nuclear incident was suddenly revised upwards by 1.01 million kilowatts, with the new estimate representing an expected 15% energy reduction when compared to the 10-year peak of 31.38 million kilowatts.

I asked a Japanese person but they said "もっと頭の良い人に聞いて".

I talked it through with a Japanese friend; here's what it means:

関電は原発事故直後に公表した夏の予想ピーク需要を６月上旬、突如１０１万キロワット引き上げ、過去１０年間で最大の３１３８万キロワットを １５％節電の前提にした。

At the beginning of June, Kanden suddenly revised up their peak electricity demand forecast (which was originally announced directly after the nuclear incident) by 1.01 million kilowatts to 31.38 million kilowatts, which would be a ten-year high, and are to use this prediction as the basis for a 15% reduction in the electricity supply [to prevent electricity use from actually reaching the predicted 31.38 million, because that would be bad].

The person I got help from also said that this sentence is hard to understand.

Even for not-homework questions, it's easier for people to help if you say what it is about the sentence that you don't understand when you ask the question. If you have a go at translating it yourself and include that attempt then (a) people can see you've tried and aren't simply being lazy (b) it's often possible to explain what it is that you seem to have misunderstood or parsed wrongly.

So you make it more likely that you will get answers and make it more likely that the answers you get will be useful in improving your understanding of Japanese (rather than simply giving you a translation of a specific sentence) -- a double benefit.

May I ask if you're Leaving Cert?
Or University?
If you're leaving cert can you tell me if you're using any books apart from Nihongo Kantan?
