The other day I saw at Book Off in Akihabara that they have second hand Ipod Touch devices at 10 thousand yen. Originally I want an Android device, but at that price the Ipod sounds pretty tempting.

Do you have any experience buying second hand electronic devices in Japan? Are there any risks of losing my money if there is any problem with the Ipod? If I buy it, how could I buy AnkiMobile without a credit card? I saw at a combini that they have "Itunes Cards", so I guess that I could use those in some way.

Off course, if I found something like the Samsung Galaxy Player, or other similar Android device, I would prefer that. Unfortunately, it seems that those are not very popular, so I guess I won't see anything similar for the same price.

What generation is it and how big is the memory?

If it's a 4th generation model I would consider buying it. The screen is much more crisp on the 4th generation and the internal speaker is better quality too. Also it has built-in mic and cameras.

Battery life tends to get shorter with age, so a newer model is preferable from that respect as well.

Note that the iPod Touch range has just had price reductions announced yesterday. The cheapest model is now 16,800 yen.

Edit: P.S. Another way to save yen is to buy refurbished models from Apple.

I'm a huge fan of buying 2nd hand electronics in Japan, and also bought an iPod Touch there without any problems.

As a general rule, i believe they make sure everything is working properly before they take in used electronics, but of course this doesnt mean that 100% will be working perfectly.

I think i actully got some kind of 14 day warrenty in case there would be any problems, but this was 2 years ago and I wasnt able to read Japanese back then and it might also differ depending on the store. You could just ask them!

I don't know anything about paying for apps without credit cards. A solution would be to just use ankiweb, but it would require wi-fi.
