Help! Learning the International Phonetic Alphabet

#1
I'm currently enrolled in Linguistics 101, and I have a test on the International Phonetic Alphabet next Thursday at the earliest. I haven't been able to find any decent websites on the IPA. Does anyone know any good sites that teaches and has transcribing exercises on the IPA? I wouldn't be adverse to buying some books on the IPA if you know of any.

Thanks in advance

There are some shared decks for Anki.

Back when I studied Linguistics, I really liked A Practical Introduction to Phonetics by J. C. Catford. It contains very detailed descriptions to actually produce the sounds, and goes a bit beyond the IPA (which is only a tool after all).

Besides Wikipedia, I found the audio files of this page really nice:

Here are the consonants:

There you will find links to the vowels and other symbols as well.

What's the scope of your test?

There's also http://accent.gmu.edu/ -- always the same text, read in english by speakers of various languages (and various dialects of english for the native speakers), and transcribed in IPA.

The material there is probably far more difficult than any transcription required in a Linguistics 101 test.

Wikipedia has everything you'll need on IPA.

Thanks for the responses. I'll start studying them soon.

@bcrAn
We're just covering the common English sounds. The test will mostly consist of one to three syllables words. Thanks for the link.

@sonya

Thanks for the link, I just ordered the book.

What I'm mostly looking for are transcribing exercises like going from the word "Linguistics" to phonetic alphabet. I know it gets pretty easy after you use them for a while, but I'm new at this and I have an oral test, so I want to make sure that I'm doing it right.
