Hey everybody, I have a question to ask from this great forum community. How should I approach language exchange and it's ups and downs. I plan to do 2 language exchanges this year and next, actually quite regularly I plan to meet up/get practice speaking and just overall hanging out more Jp people.

How should I approach this? I was thinking of doing more language exchange but realistically, I should stick with 2(1 male, 1 female). So I can get practice in both ways(speaking). A lot of people suggested I just go online and get several language exchange via on-line,skype,language exchange sites(this is where I can meet people in real-life not just online).

I just want to hear people experiences on this and how should I approach this. I obviously don't plan on telling them how much time I've invested as I just want to get the most out of the speaking. (Although when I think about it, I have been focusing on a lot on listening/reading and shadowing nowadays). But it's time I get there and flex my muscles.

I just add people to MSN/skype, talk to them as normal friends, then meet up whenever. With your talent that should be no problem, right? I've been doing that since just after finishing RTK.

Every day conversation is easy, especially when you can think before you type!

Cool, so I should just find people who want to be friends and not really target the language exchange. Although I know from hearing other people stories is that, some people aren't so serious about learning English. So they are more likely just to stay in the Japanese language. Which for me is great

A lot of my friends aren't even interested in the same things I like but we still find common ground on similar interests. The point is, you won't really find someone who likes the exact same things you do but that doesn't mean it can't work out well, in your favor.
