Yo Jordan,
I think LingQ is pretty awesome, but it has its limitations. I really liked the service but didn't want to be locked into reading online and paying. Right when I was wishing there was something else I found "Learning With Texts" via the RtK Wiki. LWT is awesome. I'm loving it.
I would recommend registering and checking out LingQ, seeing if you like the style. If you enjoy what it has to offer, I'd switch over to LWT on a local computer and use LingQ to scour resources.
LWT is under pretty active development, the creator is responsive to suggestions and manages things pretty professionally on his project homepage. It's for all languages. Using LWT takes a little extra setup as you have to "parse" your texts first with MeCab, but once that's setup it's literally an extra 20 seconds in the process of importing a text.

I'll go there for a new text every now and then, but I haven't done so for a few months. One of the problems is that parsing words is still an iffy process in Japanese and it could be more effective.
On a similar note, I've been enjoying the iPad app called Wakaru. It's close to the same in that you can look up words and place them in a bank of flashcards -- and this from any ebook or webpage. I'm not an SRS fan, but on Wakaru, you can order the cards according to frequency, so it's quite practical to be able to go back and review only the most commonly occurring words. No audio though.

Or do whatever variation of the above you _enjoy_. I guess it's about enjoying your time and "comprehensible input". I just like the word highlighting across all content

Do you know where the content comes from?

I really like the idea of lingq but they don't have much Japanese content on there that interests me.
