I agree with what mezbup is saying.

I still don't think listening to Japanese music is a good use of your time, just like American music it's largely nonsensical and it's really hard to pick out anything from really... dramas and anime are much better for that. Podcasts, movies, anything in Japanese looping in the background would be more efficient.

i think the more unintelligible crap you immerse yourself in, the more likely you will find something you DO understand.

but focused studying has a priority over immersion. immersion without any focused studying is useless.

I just started school again last week and I haven't even touched any of my Japanese materials :< I have so much work with mainly music theory and practicing. I have to get in the swing of things and get back to learning!!!

I beg to differ, because the only way to really understand something is first to dive into the area you don't have a clue. It's only when you dive into that area and also study/learn(via sentences,vocab,etc). That you really learn. But yea, it's all about getting into material you can understand but also going that extra step
