Can some Japanese language specialist tell me what's the difference between えぇぇぇぇぇ and はぁぁぁぁ?

I don't suppose I'd call myself a specialist, and I'm not sure the question was even serious, but I've watched enough dramas to get a pretty good idea that 「はあぁぁぁ。。。」 means 'What the heck... ' whereas 「えぇぇぇ。。。」 means 'Oh, wow.... '

Both can be used in a wide variety of contexts, but basically one is an exclamation of puzzlement and one is an exclamation of amazement. Both can be used with a rising 'questioning' tone or with a flat 'statement' tone too, and are pretty much as flexible and as vague as the English exclamations I compared them to.

The question was half-serious, but I've got a very nice response, thanks for that!

Romaji H a a a a a.
Kana [F] [3] [3] [3] [3].

or

Romaji H a l a l a l a * x a also works
Kana [F] [3] [Shift][3] [Shift][3] [Shift][3]

The question is "How do you spell it?"

I agree that え! is the multi-purpose (and I really mean "multi"!) word for something surprising, and Haaah? is some levels of shock above that.

The reason I asked is that は sounds like はは (=笑), so I wasn't sure about はぁぁ?

In English we'd probably use the word Huh?

I could believe はぁぁ... though. Have you seen it written down?

Thanks for the replies!

People say は? to mean 'huh?'. Whether you put additional あs onto it is up to you.
