Where can I find some decent kanji fonts for linux.

The default fonts are quite horrendous :/

Does anyone know where I could get some better fonts? They don't have to be great, just better than the default.

Thanks

Have you tried search for CJK or CJKV fonts?

Look for the Epson fonts, they are great. I know it's an .exe file but it's just a self-extracting archive. So after you extracted it on a (virtual) Windows machine just copy the files over to your unix system.

By default, I use DejaVu Sans and Serif in Ubuntu that have support for Japanese, IPA, etc. Imo they are beautiful.

Have you unchecked "Allow pages to choose their own fonts..." in the Advanced font settings window?

Although I do want to add, on the site linked to above I downloaded ttf30.exe, it contained japanese fonts and they did work perfectly, the problem is they were not to my liking, very confusing, so I deleted them. They are the only fonts that firefox seems to accept though :/

EDIT: The exe file contained several fonts but firefox would only display one of them. It's very strange indeed.

Do you see a dropdown menu "Fonts for: <language>" at the top of the advanced font preferences window, and did you select Japanese there? If yes and it still doesn't work, I have no idea, sorry. ;-)
