Used RtK books?

#1
I would like to purchase the three RtK books, but I'm not sure how much difference there is between the different editions of RtK1. Are the newer versions just tidied up around the edges or that much better? I saw some sample pages of an early edition of RtK2 and it looked pretty hard to read.

Anyway, I don't care what the condition is, but is Amazon the best source for US delivery? I'm kicking myself for letting a $50 bundle of all 4 books get away from me on eBay last month!

Thanks for any info
Darryl

@dzurn, you should take into consideration that 196 Kanji have been added to the 常用漢字 (Standard Kanji). They will not be included in the older versions. You might be able to get a supplementary list, and the can be found online (including this site).

I understand how you feel. However, when you finish RTK1 you should have a good understand of Kanji. At that time the RTK2 should be that intimidating.

Because you appreciate it and want a physical copy of it as you're gonna spend over 100 hours using it?

Its futile after frame 500, RevRTK jumps in and helps you with story's from others. The only reason you should be still using the book after frame #500 is for the primitives. The other books are useless also. I doubt anyone will spend 100 hours using it when this site is much more beneficial.

Still, buying the book is basically saying "I used your method, and thank you for it"

If it's useless after #500 because Heisig didn't provide stories from that point on, then that's because you're not catering to Heisig's goal with the method at all, and are following the book through your own means. Others might not be following your way of doing the method, so you can't be telling people why they should and shouldn't use the physical copy of the book.

I found the supplemental list, and the introduction described how Heisig inserted the new kanji into his numbering scheme. That brought up the differences in the frame numbering introduced between various editions, which I haven't seen described.

I simply meant that the onyomi and kunyomi looked pretty small and hard to read. I was hoping a new version would have better typography is all.

My eyes haven't been getting any younger, even though *I* get better looking Wink

Frankly I'd love to have a PDF of the book so I can search and take it with me. I'd still hit the author's tip jar, corresponding to his cut of the regular paper book.
