Siggraph: computer graphics exhibition

#1
I thought members doing/interested in this stuff who are near Vancouver might be interested in this "conference and exhibition on computer graphics and interactive techniques". (The exhibition is Aug 9-11.) I was told it's a serious event for people in the industry.

I'm thinking of taking my nephew to it b/c he's expressed an interest in doing computer animation when he grows up. Do you think it would have impressive displays and also give him some sense of what it is that computer animators actually do? Or is it more geared towards specialists and the highly technical content might just scare him off?

There is a wide variety of things CG. Many exhibitions, workshops, displays, discussion groups, papers, videos, and it's for students and professionals.

If you are no student, you have to apply for ACM membership first, costs some 40$ and register for the conference, prices ranging from 50$ for a one day basic package to 954$+ for full packages all-inclusive. Without that they won't let you in.

Thanks N. We checked out the exhibition and the video festival screenings and it was fantastic. There were a huge number of product and service exhibitors. It was also a school and job fare. Perfect. Being able to watch some the "best of" examples all together was great. We skipped all the technical workshops and lectures.

Siggraph will be in L.A. next year, for anyone interested.
