This site may be free of charge however, please buy the book! Not only are you supporting the founder,but it is recommended you read through the textbook first to decrease the chance of confusion.

A: The book explains it better,and as you progress further you will get the feeling everyone is just making crap up when unsure. You will give up at least one time when coming to this conclusion.

A: Go for it. Self motivation is key,don't let nobody hold you back from your believes on what you can and can't do. I will say this though;go at a pace you're comfortable with.

I do also recommend you buy (or torrent) the kanji learners dictionary by kodansha! A very useful aid for kanji compounds,please Amazon it for more information.

Well, that's it! Just read the book and you'll be done in no time. Its not that hard,and yes you will eventually need RTK 2 and 3 (especially 3)

There has been quite some controversy in whether one should own a copy of the original RTK 1 textbook and would like to clear up the matter. Each kanji given in the book is a build up of non existent kanji called "primitives". These "primitives" not only change in meaning when you least expect it,but Heisig does a masterful job in explaining where to place each element depending on change of shape which indeed can be very confusing to new salamander. If you are using the book,I recommend you stick to only the book and not interchange stories between it and the site (unless you want to go beyond RTK 1). Each story is a gradual build up of the other, using a random story will effect this constant train of thought unless the story chosen matches Heisigs in disguise and or is relatively short and simple,while staying true to each element.

So the next time you come across such ridiculous blasphemy from someone,heed my words and pay no mind. You will finish RTK 1 within less than 2 months time if you do 1 lesson a day,long lessons shall be cut in half.

Yes, Its clear that I typed poorly on purpose. The RTK forums is a great place indeed,yet has lots of very shallow,dull, and overly stiff personalities from individuals such as yourself. Never have I visited an internet forum where I must have to type grammatically correct 100% of the time without judgement.

We are here to learn I guess! Others can be loose and talk however they feel like someplace else.

I think they were talking more to the hillbilly-esque personality you kind of embodied. I (for one) would never talk like that and would consider it a travesty of the English language, but I am OCD...so.

Is the OP aware that Fabrice never wrote the books, and that the majority opinion on the forum is to not buy RTK2 and 3?

The original post could have been written better. A new comer could feel that it does clearly addresses their concerns. Some, could even consider it light humor. I would be thankful to an individual based on the advice they given than how long they have contributed.

Image Charles "Pete" Conrad was a special needs student, and went on to be an astronaut. Also, isn't RTK a special method to aid in the learning of Kanji.

Actually, I was a "Special Ed" student myself until I reached junior high and realized I didn't learn the same way other students did, and adjusted my study methods.

It is a catch all term that includes those who a very intelligent. Our education system is designed to teach all students the same way. I have seem some very bright students with utterly poor skills. The point isn't about a magic spaceman. The point is that some people use different methods learn. Isn't that Heisig's mnemonic method is all about?

And I think you are right. I was not clear about what I wanted to say. I explain again:

He posts a new thread, badly written (I am not a native speaker, I can hardly understand what's is written there), which content (as far as I could understand) wasn't wonderful either. He requests to make it sticky what is a good joke also.

So far so good, everyone is free in this forum and I dont need to read his thread if I don't like it.

But what really bothered me is that Bodhisamaya said something against this thread and the original poster wrote something like "if you don't have anything good to say don't say it".

That attitude I think is against the spirit of this forum so I asked him for respect for others. In general. He can not set the rules here, if he wants to control what others can publish about his posts, he need to go write his own blog or something.

And in particular Bodhisamaya has helped lot of people with his posts here in the past so I felt it specially offensive to "make him shut up" just because his opinion differs from the original poster.

I realize you were clarifying the meaning of special needs. Apologies for interrupting with something silly, but I really was just making a little joke for Bodhisayama.

Being from same vintage, I figured B and I share similar slang: spaceman=spaced out=space cadet. B has shared a few stories with us about his former blissed-out idyllic Hawaiin beach commune lifestyle. Put that together, fill in a blanks, and well...I thought B might smile.
