Hi there,

I searched for this but didn't come up with anything. Is there an Anki deck out there with Japanese definitions of the RTK keywords anywhere? I've already gone through RTK3 at this point and would like to review RTK1 but want to inject more Japanese into the experience this time.

If there isn't anything like this, would anyone be interested in helping me build a deck? The more people there are, the less work for all of us :p

If you have already gone through RtK 1&3, congrats! But it's probably too late to start adding in Japanese definitions to the keywords. I'm under the opinion that it will mostly be a waste of time (this late in the game). Now it's much more worth your time to start working on an actual vocab or sentence deck, and just upkeep your RTK deck as long as you possibly can in the background. (Till you get bored with it.)

Honestly, you probably can skip a vocab deck and dive straight into sentences with Subs2SRS + the Morphology plugin for Anki. Subs2SRS is a pain to setup, but it's output is outstanding once it is. The Morphology plugin keeps a database of the words you tell it you know, so it will find sentences that are as close to your level of difficulty as possible.

Oh, I forgot to add that I've been SRSing for awhile now and have a pretty solid grasp on grammar. So it wouldn't be a completely new start or anything.

From the looks of it, this kind of resource doesn't exist so I'm going to start an Excel spreadsheet and start copying and pasting definitions away. I'll post it once I'm done (probably months from now :p)~

Japanese definitions of the English keywords? I'm afraid I also don't see any value in that. If you mean Japanese definitions of Japanese keywords, I think a sentence showing usage of the word (which also hints at its meaning) might be a better route. (But doing this for every word seems like overkill to me.)

If it's Japanese keywords, you might want to cross reference the Tanuki deck which contains very brief sentences and definitions for a selections of words for each of the 1981 Jouyou kanji. Also, expect to make some changes to the Japanese keyword list that's been posted.

edit: Oh, I sound like a killjoy. Let me explain. It's easy to caught up in wanting to complete/improve resources and to end up not making the most productive use of our time. I'm hoping you might avoid the mistakes I made! :-)

I see where you're coming from Thora. I wouldn't want to embark on anything overly 面倒くさい grinding my teeth along the way thinking that I'm going to help the community with a resource no one really wants/needs.

That being said I think it might be useful for some more obscure words in RTK1 and RTK3, seeing as how I had to look up the English definition just to understand the meanings. Seeing as these kanji do not always reflect the actual Japanese words, I think it might be worthwhile.

Well, I don't know anything about Japanese definitions, what I did something along the way was something along the lines of this, a Japanese vocab word. But I did this too late into RtK to make any realistic use of it. (It does help a lot when you get some keywords confused). But in general, it was too much effort to change my old cards.
