I need some Japanese music that I will like...

#1
Can anyone recommend any Japanese music that i may like, let me explain my musical taste. Mainly i like electronic genres of music and NO screaming and stuff, I mainly listen to dubstep and drum and bass but i understand these don't have many lyrics in basically i like bouncy kind of electronic fast hyped up music and stuff. A bit of a guilty pleasure but i do enjoy *looks at the floor* the honoi team because its all upbeat and cheery and stuff. So any suggestions? Tongue

We have an electronica thread: http://forum.koohii.com/showthread.php?tid=6811

For happy upbeat stuff I'd recommend all of Plus-Tech Squeezebox. Also:
Folder 5 - Believe
Folder 5 - Ready
old but so happy!

Kaela Kimura - Banzai
空中分解
slightly newer

here's a hilariuos thing about jpop lyrics:
http://bipblog.com/archives/891194.html

lol at this;: someone who put together all the overused lyrics together Smile

and the aitai crap!

if you like hanoi team then you might like this song from s/mileage

all their other songs are really good too. They are rather new(2 years) and is part of the idol groups called Hello! project, look into the them, the best are s/mileage and c-ute. Mornining musume and berryz kobo, and buono are part of it too, but are just nowhere near as epic as s/mileage and c-ute.

I just found TCY Radio this weekend, and I love it. They play dubstep, dance etc - probably the same songs you already listen to, but the commentary is in Japanese. Actually Taku Takahashi, the founder and presenter, is fluent in English too, so sometimes he switches language mid sentence, or says something in English and then translates it into Japanese. Pretty useful.

It's quite small at the moment, and so the stuff is spread out between these three sites:

http://www.tcyradio.com
http://soundcloud.com/tcy-radio-tokyo
http://itunes.apple.com/jp/podcast/tcy-r...d417000909

Apparently it's going to launch as a full time station in September:

The 2011-08-05 bilingual interview with Jaguar Skills is fantastic.

Have you tried J-core?

It's less agressive than the European varieties. Tongue

I typically watch Anime music on youtube.
Just type in either
[Anime name] Opening [Number]
or
[Anime name] Ending [Number]

Some of my favorites, though, are:
Period by Chemistry

Golden Time Lover

Doll by Terra

Mosaic Kakera by Sunset Swish

There's a show called Hamonepu (it means "Harmony Neptune").
It's a group acapella competition.

You can find it at DailyMotion:

Would it be totally offensive to hijack this thread to make requests on my own behalf? If so, I apologize in advance, but I'm having a very hard time finding Japanese music I enjoy. I'm attempting to use music to give myself more immersion, because I can have it on almost all the time at work and home. Most of what I can find in the US, on Amazon, and via English-language searches sends me to the kind of JPop that I can't get too deeply into - that electronic high-pitched girl band stuff. Although I have found a few I can enjoy (Kalafina, which seems to combine World Music with JPop, comes to mind), most of them are a bit too mechanical for my tastes. I can enjoy them from time to time, and I have a strange and inexplicable weakness for Namie Amuro, but I'm getting frustrated that the market of available music here is saturated with electronic girl bands.

I am specifically looking for more male vocalists that aren't oversynthesized. Two I've found that I think are absolutely amazing are:
Hiroyuki Hanada
Chikuzen Sato
I know Sato was in a more electronic-based band called Sing Like Talking, and I'm on the fence with regards to their album stuff, but I've heard some "unplugged"-style live stuff that sounds fantastic. And Sato has an all-accoustic EP available on iTunes in the US which quickly became my favorite album to play, English or Japanese. I believe Hanada was in The Roosters before going solo, and is associated with some project or group called Rock N' Roll Gypsies now, or was lately. I have two albums of his, which were available on iTunes in the US, and I listen to them regularly. He's like the Japanese Rolling Stones, in my opinion. Genuine rock music without relying on a drum machine. I've found a lot of punk, and while I do enjoy that from time to time as well, I think I need something with more intelligible lyrics and cohesive melodies.

I am not ruling out female vocalists if the music is interesting enough to me. I have been enjoying Love Psychedelico lately, but it's a bit too much Japanglish to help me, I think. The constant shifting between English and Japanese is making me focus on the English too much and ignoring the Japanese.

So, those are the ones I know about. What I'm looking for is more music I can fill my iPod with. I know there must be a gigantic indie music scene going on in Japan about now, but I'm just not finding access to it.

My current favorite (for the last couple years) is Nico Touches the Walls. Some fast songs, some slow, but really crisp lyrics. The lyrics are also interesting and meaningful.

This is my favorite song:

You could use last.fm. One of the features there is that after you select your favorite artists the site starts to suggest you other artists that match your preferences.

Arigato gozaimasu! There are lots of good suggestions there. The problem I've had with things like Pandora and Amazon's suggestion mechanism is that if you put in any Japanese artist, they tend to reason "Oh, you like a Japanese artist? You must like all Japanese music!" And then proceed to give me a lot of poppy girl groups. I just tried last.fm, and it looks a little more properly tuned. I'll leave that on today and see how it goes. Thanks!

Okay, one final attempt. I have been searching for a loooong time now but I am not able to find any Japanese music that is more or less in the style of the fantastic Korean indie band Nell. For those who do not know their music, listen here:

- 현실의 현실
- 기억을 걷는 시간
- 멀어지다

A sound with a bite, difficult to find in the overload of cheap plastic or creepy Japanese music I hear so often. However, de gustibus non est disputandum. Any tip is welcome :-)

Nell sounds like generic weepy indie band, japan should have a bunch of those.

Block.fm
Most of the music is English but the DJs talk in Japanese. Plenty of Drum & Bass / Dub Step / Trance though.

Thanks so far. Much appreciated!
Accidentally I found music by Secret Ocean (in Spotify), which I like.
Listening to Block.fm now: not bad. Unfortunately, this station does not appear to be in TuneIn.
