Why Japanese stop following you on Twitter

#1
This has a rather colourful collections of reasons: http://whatjapanthinks.com/2011/07/11/wh...n-twitter/

Q: What characteristics make you want to stop following someone on Twitter?

1 Lots of aggressive tweets 100
2 Sequences of shifty tweets 75.2
3 Sequences of drama queen tweets 72.1

Edit: Looking at the original, it seems #2 refers to Japan charity type stuff, and #3 might better be translated as ‘attention whore’ rather than ‘drama queen’—a subtle but important distinction. ^_^

Coincidentally, those are the same reasons I stop following or defriend people as well.

Actually, it's a pretty big distinction in my book. Drama queens cause drama everywhere they go, effectively turning the light on other people so they can watch. Attention whores do whatever they can to shine the light on themselves.

But perhaps neither is a perfect translation of that they meant originally and it's a mix of those?

I wonder why "I stopped following everyone and got a real life" isn't on the list?

The two people who have ever done that are no longer on Twitter - so were unable to respond to the survey.

The original is "かまってちゃんツイートを連投", and google gives us some definitions:
Quote:かまってちゃんとは、常に誰かに相手にしてもらうためにさまざまな行動を起こす人のこと
(source)
and the more pithy
Quote:構ってほしい人 (source)
I'm not sure I agree with your definition of "drama queen", though :-)

“Any person who behaves in an overly dramatic manner so as to garner attention.” (Wiktionary)

“Conflicts and disappointments are natural side effects of the human experience, but for a certain personality type known as a "drama queen," life's little setbacks can trigger explosive emotional outbursts and other irrational behaviors. The term "drama queen," or less frequently, "drama king" is usually applied to someone with a demanding or overbearing personality who tends to overreact to seemingly minor incidents. A drama queen often views the world in absolutes, and only has two settings on her emotional control button; zero and ten. Psychologists might describe a drama queen or king as a neurotic personality with histrionic tendencies, meaning they tend to become needlessly dramatic whenever order is disrupted.”

“Attention whore or sometimes media whore is a derogatory term used in various social situations usually given to a person that seeks attention any degree, regardless of whether the attention has positive or negative connotations.”

Is this one of those questions where you know the answer i.e. know why they did it, but beg to differ on some finer point i.e. related to their rationale, and want to have someone answer your question on the former as a kind of intro before the latter discussion? ;p If so, can we just skip that part?

No it's just a straightforward question, nothing fancy. I don't know the answer, hence I'm asking.

Sorry, I just assumed you knew what “gal moji” (ギャル文字) was, but I guess I don't actually know how experienced you are. You can find “gal moji” on Google, also. It's an atypical digital writing style in Japanese. Here's a paper I linked before that's pretty interesting: http://www.sciencedirect.com/science/art...091000056X
