Is there a pattern to how often Kanji expire?

#1
Greetings,

I have been using my own physical word card SRS system for a few weeks before finding Reviewing the Kanji, which I think is just radical. Anyhow, I am wondering how often the Kanji expire. I added up to Kanji 500 for review. I reviewed them one time and they all entered box 1. The next day 54 of those Kanji had expired, so I reviewed and they are in turn, in box 2. Now a day later, 450ish Kanji still sit in box 1 without expiring. Why is this? It would seem that if the SRS decided I 54 of the Kanji I added at the same time were expired while the other 450 have not?

I am not sure if this will even be read, but if you have taken the time to read this could you lend me an explanation?

Sincere thanks,

I think that the site applies a random factor to space the delays for each card, so that if one day you have to review 700 cards because you took a break, those 700 cards won't expire at the same time again in the future.
