So has Home (Japan) changed at all since our last thread on the topic? More interesting, less populated, harder to access from outside Japan, et cetera?

Games are not region locked at all on the PS3. Movies are region locked, but A covers both the US and Japan.

You can even buy stuff from the JP PSN and use it, but you can't use a US credit card for that. You have to buy JP PSN cards and use them. (Or use a JP credit card.)

BTW, Play Asia very clearly says which games are lock and which aren't. For the PS3 this is rather pointless, since none of them are locked, but it's useful for some other systems, like the 360.

Some games are region-locked, but I don't know any off hand. The region locking is the responsibility of the disc, not the system.

But you know if you end up using the PSN there's a goo chance someone will make off with your info. 8D

Blu-rays are not region free. They just have different regions from DVDs.

There's a keyboard? Is it like an IME, then?

Indeed. By pure luck, American, Canada and Japan all have the same Blu-Ray region - so you can use the same discs.

If you're European or from Australia / New Zealand, then forget it.

But yeh PS3 games are region free.
