Hi, I'm looking for a device that enables me to review Anki on the go.
Preferably it should also enable me to phone and listen to music.
I heard about the iPhone, but that's ridiculously expensive.
I have no knowledge about mobile phones these days, mine is black&white and you can... phone with it. and basic SMS.

I don't need any fancy-schmancy really.

As far as cheap goes. An iPod Touch or an Android phone does the trick. Anki on the Android doesn't cost 25$... (But doesn't help Damien out either.)

You can also look for a used iPod Touch or iPhone, as you don't need any recent model for Anki. A first generation device will do.

Ankidroid is surprisingly awesome. I wish I used mine more, but as I'm always adding new cards a day it's a bit tiring to connect the phone with the computer.

Is there a specific Phone (Android, I suppose is an OS? Do mobiles have OS'es?) to be recommended?

Which manufacturers offer such mobile phones, how can I get by without expensive contracs? Any experiences on that?

Why do you need to connect it to your computer? Aren't you syncing your decks with AnkiWeb?

iPod Touch is not a phone, but it's more than an mp3 player. There are lots of useful applications for learning Japanese. Just having Anki, a dictionary, and desired media alone makes it worth it though. Now I don't actually have one myself, but everything Japanesey I can do with my Android phone works on an iPod Touch, so if I didn't have my phone I'd definitely get an iPod.

If you're not gonna use it much anyway you could get an older version, should be cheaper.

I don't know if I can recommend a specific phone, but HTC and Samsung makes some good quality ones for sure.

kind of OT but does anyone know if you can use ankiweb on a 3ds?

I just tried it out. yes it works, not exactly comfortable but its ok

I can see that there is a lot of useful SmartPhones to be had, but
I'm a little scared by 24-month contracts still.
Need to think more about how I'd utilize all this mobile internet stuffs.

Thanks for your answer. I would agree, except for the last part: "(and much less expensive)".

Actually what I would love would be something similar to an Ipod touch, but much less expensive and not from Apple. I would prefer a device that used something like Android.

Maybe a Samsung Galaxy Player?
