Japanese equivalent to Economist, Atlantic Monthly, etc?

#1
Hi All,

Are there any Japanese equivalents to English publications such as The Economist, The New Yorker, Atlantic Monthly, etc.? I've been reading one-page Asahi news items for a while, so now I'm on the hunt for slightly more developed articles -- longer, more in depth, perhaps more stylistic in tone (perhaps they exist on Asahi and I'm just missing them...).

If anyone has some favorite blogs or whatever that'd be fine too.

Any suggestions greatly appreciated!

The closest thing I can think of is Agora. It has mainly long editorials on recent events, and I find it good for business related vocabulary. ^^

There is a magazine called the エコノミスト in Japan too. It's basically the same thing as the English version but a different company.

And there's 日経ビジネス which is really good quality.

Awesome, thanks for the responses. Both sites look good and I'm excited to read these more in depth articles! I've asked a few friends the same question, if I find any other good recommendations I'll share them here.

You may like AERA, a weekly newspaper produced by the Asahi Shinbun. It goes into the week's main stories in more depth.
This weeks issue has features about the cancer risks due to nuclear radiation - very relevant!

Unfortunately the articles are not avaiable online, though I do know it can be read if you buy a subscription on the iPad. Can't remember the name of the app that allows you to do that though.

As I've just now gotten back to Japan I finally went and browsed the magazine section at my location book store and found these two magazines (in print):

KOTOBA
http://shinsho.shueisha.co.jp/kotoba/index.html

考える人
http://www.shinchosha.co.jp/kangaeruhito/mokuji.html

They were big and expensive quarterlies (I think), so I didn't actually buy them. But I have hope to find what I am looking for.

How about 経済新聞 (Keizai Shinbun, http://www.nikkei.com)?
