Does anybody have a good source to learn about different Japanese dialects from? I'm in Chiba right now (on a 90-day vacation) and I'm having trouble understanding some of the 方言. Any help would be appreciated Smile

they use entire different vocab for some words and their sentence endings are quite different.

googling 千葉弁 and reading all kinds of answers to questions and articles might be a good source for learning.

Ask the ones you're talking to!
That's the best advice I can give.
I live in 泉南, famous for it's dirty dialect. In the beginning I just asked them all the time when I didn't understand, and it really helped!
Remember, they all know standard Japanese, so just ask for a 標準語 translation =)

Are you sure it's 方言 and not just standard slang Japanese like わからねー instead of わからない? That link has old people speaking it, which is probably true for many dialects (especially a place like Chiba that is so close to Tokyo).
