Hey, so, I'm not nearly finished RTK1 yet but I'm still curious, so my my question is: When you guys finished RTK, did you use the key words of kanji used in compounds to create stories, to remember the vocab?

Nope, I just throw them in SRS and brute force memorize them. It's not that bad really, especially when you get used to it. There is so much vocab out there to learn that you really don't want to spend a lot of time per each word, especially since a lot of them will be easy to remember anyway because the kanji hint to their meaning.

Hey, in my case not really...there are so many compounds, it would get out of hand pretty quickly. The kanji readings will help you remember the compounds (just by learning vocab, not necessarily learning the reading by themselves, a path I've left untrodden). Heisig is still useful for remembering the compounds even if you don't make mnemonic stories for them... like if I write 飛行機 I immediately think fly-go-mechanism, but to try and make a story for all of them...I think it would take up too much time.
