Yep, I've seen them in plenty of bookstores.
I don't remember the names... but they exist.

Kinda off topic but I've been wondering for a while why ファイナルファンタジー ends with a ジー instead of シー :/
Anyways... I never knew they had books (maybe it's because I'm relatively new to Final Fantsy games). Are they actually any good? Are they like side stories or just book versions of the original stories?

If light novels (ライトノベル/ラノベ) count, then there are tons.

On the Way to a Smile (Japanese title) is one I read. I think it's set somewhere between the end of the game and Advent Children. It's broken down into parts and the language is generally fairly simple, so it's good if you don't have much reading experience. That's mainly because the guy is a terrible (小説) writer on so many levels it's hard to begin explaining why, so expect to experience some amount of pain if you stick it out to the end. There's an anime version of the first part, which you should be able to find on Veoh.

Anyone find any links to the ones that are free on the sites? I tried finding the XIII prequel one, but only could find the drama CD they made for it.
