Less Comprehensible Input

#1
I was wondering if there was anybody else that does this.
Basically, I love when I start to understand more within a show, but at the same time I become dissapointed because I don't understand more.
So I typically will listen to something very incomprehensible to me such as news so as there will be less pressure. Wondering if anyone else does it... Strange I know.

SN: only listening for me, it would annoy me with reading

Can't say I've done exactly that, but I have stopped paying attention to things after understanding them for a while because I don't want to ruin my record, as it were.

Speaking of pressure, does anyone else feel it after being complimented on their Japanese? I become less willing to say things I'm not sure about and more tacit in general because I feel like I have something to live up to. =/

I know that feeling of pressure but in different contexts. But you know what they say about being complimented on your Japanese.

Well, it's hard to improve without making mistakes. No need to beat yourself up about it, especially before you've actually made them.

It happened to me a lot in the past. Your happy when you underrstand something new that you didn't know before, but then another word or phrase comes up that you don't know. The way I overcame this was, I just kept plugging in. I understood nothing in the beginning, then I worked my way up.

You can tell the genuine compliments from the 義理 ones though. It's when they start laughing and suddenly become very interested in how you study Japanese.
