I've had a problem for a while now with the Japanese IME on Windows 7. For some reason, it won't recognise certain words that I type. For example, 聞く. If I type きく and press space, I get a list of crap like 菊, 起句, etc. No 聞く. いきたい gives me 活きたい and 生きたい, but no 行きたい. What gives? I just tried removing it and putting it back, but it doesn't appear to have changed anything.

Try the Google Japanese IME?

I'm getting 鴨しれない with Google's one at the moment, with no correct option in the list. I think they just get sick sometimes...

Okay, I've installed the Google one, and 聞く and 行きたい work now. I get 鴨しれない like Javizy above, but meh.
What I really wanted was for the Microsoft one to work though, so if anyone knows how that problem can be fixed please post!

I've never had that problem on Windows 7, do you have the general conversion setting on?

Also try using your cursor to highlight the whole portion you want to convert and then hit spacebar.

pudding cat Wrote:Well, the typical way to write it would be with just kana. かも and しれない are separate words, and you can type them separately.JimmySeal Wrote:かも知れないJavizy Wrote:I'm getting 鴨しれない with Google's one at the moment, with no correct option in the list. If I type any verb or adjective and かもしれない, then hit spacebar, MS IME gives me a whole bunch of options, e.g.
買うかもしれない
買うかも知れない
飼うかもしれない
飼うかも知れない
かうかもしれない
かうかも知れない
カウかもしれない
カウかも知れない
It's typing the expression by itself that's the problem.

I just reset the settings back to the defaults - no luck. It's bizarre. きいた = 奇異他, apparently.

That's really odd. The only thing I can think of is that the conversion settings for the different dictionaries are messed up, like the Kanji dictionary is being used instead of the Standard dictionary. If you've gone back to the default settings though that probably isn't it :S

Okay, the Google IME is about a billion times better than the Microsoft one.
1) It works
2) Its auto-completion is awesome. 安室奈美恵 actually shows up if you type あむろ.
3) You can do this: ♥
This thread was a success.
