唐変木 is a long time favorite. I love the sound of it.

言わ猿

They make the zaru into the kanji for monkey for that proverb with the wise monkeys.

for the normal verb conjugation stuff like sezaru wo enai... zaru is left in hiragana. there's no kanji for it.

I thought it was cute

I must say it made me laugh.

Today I was reading the newspaper and saw the word for rounding fractions--四捨五入.

GREAT kanji.

Another funny kanji word I came across just now.

Bamboo rakes are called 熊手 (くまで)

normal word I was still glad to find:　諺
While looking for something like 「口は災いの元」
Very effective in searches too!
直ちに実行される

This one is funny but not in most dictionaries. Do a google image search for it.
It's attaching an umbrella to your bike to keep off the sun.
かさすべ

Another funny one. カラスの行水　　Taking a very quick shower/bath.

Everyone who has lived in Japan for any length of time knows that certain things or images are closely associated with a season, and vice-versa. This goes well beyond what I was used to in America, where seasonal associations don't go very far beyond snow=winter.

Anyway, I was reading the Japanese Wikipedia article for 桜, and came across this word:
風物詩 (ふうぶつし）

Things which remind someone of a particular season. A big thing in Japanese culture, but I had never heard the word until now.

五月雨（さみだれ）
Used in a name that I could never remember the reading for: 妖刀 五月雨（ようとうさみだれ）.
