I'm sure there's a list somewhere, but if I had to make such a list myself, I'd head over to the Unicode Consortium's Unihan database, download the files (look for unihan.zip in the left column), then figure out which characters don't have a mapping to a Japanese-related field (or fields) of my choosing.

I'd do it for you, but I'm at work!

Edit: And please tell us what you're planning to do with such a list.

First you have to define what you mean by "not in Japanese".

(Although, as far as I know that list doesn't exist, and I doubt anyone will make it since it would be very time consuming, and probably not very useful.)

ydtt: I mean not in the jis x 0208 kanji. Netsplitter: Thanks! I would learn the characters I don't know for a basis in written Chinese. I have passed a patent translation trial and it has long been my goal to learn the very basics of sanskrit, classical greek, arabic, chinese and latin as Edward Sapir states that loads of languages are influenced by their lexis and grammar. I know I would have to learn different readings for the ji I know.
