This website I cannot find again...

Hey folks,

I came across a homepage of an american (?) guy once, who reached fluency in Japanese. Unfortunately I forgot the adress of that page and cannot find it via google. The last post he made was about dialects, especially the Kyushu or Kyoto (?) dialect, which sounds more "male"/cooler (correct me if I'm wrong. He was just saying this in his post as far as I remember). Also he had a category for JLPT3 and 2 learning. He wrote he used the UNICOM JLPT series (also photographed his books and uploaded the pictures for illustration)... The page had some orange colors on top *shame*
Please help me finding that page again Sad

That's not really true as a general statement -- if you are a Kyoto/Kansai native, then "standard" Tokyo Japanese is mostly used in formal situations. As a general rule, using formal language in cases where it's not necessary is considered feminine. So if you are a male living in Kansai, using standard Japanese in informal situations may sound feminine.

Now, certainly there are people who think Kansai-ben sounds cool, but I wouldn't say that's a universal perception.
