First of all, I'm disapointed that the Iphone doesnt come with it. what a shame.

Secondly, and more importantly, I think its pretty dull to advertise with the earthquake...

"We are now ready to do everything in our power to help the people hardest hit.
To start, we are making our most popular iPhone Japanese Language applications FREE. We imagine that there will be a growing need for Japanese language resources in the coming days, and we are going to do everything we can to assist. "

right...

How can you criticize them though, it's not like they're raising the prices to capitalize. They're giving their stuff away for free! Which is admirable.

Yeah. I thought it was a little odd to try to capitalize on the earthquake, but they're not asking anything of the people taking their stuff for free like Bing did. Even though, it's still probably just an attempt for publicity, but I figured people here might be interested. It's not worth what they normally charge. Since it's free for a bit, I wanted to check them out. I will probably keep the grammar dictionary. The word bank and word dictionary might be useful to someone who doesn't already have a dictionary.

Here's a link to all of the free apps:

Gengo Talking Dictionary looks decent, got to be worth a download - it has audio, which instantly puts it ahead of all free J-dictionary apps. Likewise Gengo Grammar dictionary claims to have audio for lots of example sentences. Rest of the applications are kind of meh..

Will download both and give full verdict tomorrow, once I've had a play.

I've had Gengo Grammar before on my previous iPhone (the bathtub is not a good place to talk to friends). It was alright as a searchable grammar dictionary on the fly (I used it on the bus to look up grammar points in manga.) That said post N2+ the coverage is pretty slack.

Oh yeah, It isn't too bad for example sentences. They were relatively clear. I never heard any audio, but I imagine that it requires an internet connection to download it.

Btw, just started watch "Swept Away" in Japanese. I sense I will shortly reach new levels of pissed offness any second.
