Interesting article, but I don't think I've found it to be true for me. I
can't function without food, I rarely get particularly hungry, but if I miss even one meal, I feel light-headed, and if I don't eat for most of the day, I go extremely dizzy and weak, will throw up, and if I don't get something to eat quickly, will faint. Sleep deprivation on the other hand? I'm Ok with six hours sleep, and can easily go for at least a week on four hours sleep a day. I actually feel like I'm at my most focused and do some of my best work when I'm in a kind of hyper-alert, sleep-deprived state, as long as I don't push things too far. Doesn't do my anxiety disorder (I don't drink caffeine any more as that also makes it much worse) much good though, I do wind up more jittery because of it, it's an annoying trade-off, either I sleep more and find I can't think straight, or don't sleep, feel briefly great and hyper-focused, everything seeming somehow more sharp and clear, reps feeling easier and me doing demonstrably better on them...yet end up anxious.

Might be partly because I'm a night person to the extent of being pretty much nocturnal - don't ask me to do anything at 12.00 in the afternoon, I'm useless then, get me to do it at 3.00am. I think maybe I just really messed my sleep-wake cycle up when I was at University (as I'm sure a lot of students have found).
