My dad works for a library with a Japanese section, and is currently ordering books. I want to read the original version of trigun but I'm a bit confused by it all. On Amazon it looks like the original version is no longer in print. But Wikipedia seems to suggest that the 2010 version is just a reprinting of the original story.

Can anyone tell me if I've got this right? He's not planning to order from amazon, so if the original is still in print he might be able to get it. While we're on the subject, has anyone got any other reccomendations? It can't be too difficult because it's aimed at the people who take a Japanese class there, and that doesn't go to a very high level.

The first 3 volumes of Trigun are intermediate level. Maybe low-intermediate. The 9 volumes of Trigun Maximum have no furigana, though, so they are definitely harder. Upper-intermediate or advanced.

I have no idea if the reprintings will be the originals, though. Or even that there are different versions of the original series.

BTW, Trigun Maximum is NOT a rewrite. It continues where Trigun left off. The manga is slightly different than the anime, though. And the new anime movie doesn't seem to have anything from the manga.

I mean, it says that the original series of Trigun is being released as two big books (this is what the anime covers), and Trigun Maximum is being released as seven big books. You could just buy them and not get tons of little books.

Thanks for the replies, I didn't realsie that the later volumes became so much harder thanks for the warning. I think he's only going to be getting the begginings of series anyway, because he wants a range of genres and has a low budget.

Are the two big books these？
