ipod touch app - Whats an alternative to daijirin for j-j dictionaries

#1
Hey guys,

I like daijirin, but the font size resize option still requires me to pinch scale (my eyes are a bit weak). Does anyone know any other really good dictionaries that are j-j like daijirin? I like daijirin a lot but it hurts my eyes (even after changing the settei to max font size).

Thanks Smile

I don't have it but one I see mentioned a lot is 大辞泉 (daijisen). If you look for it make sure you search using romaji because it won't show up with kanji even though the name is in kanji.

I'll just comment on the dictionaries themselves, since I don't have an iTouch, they all had iTouch apps last I checked though. (I search all of these at once, with an EPWING reader, frequently)
There's Daijisen (大辞泉), which is a lot like Daijirin content-wise, Meikyou(明鏡), which I think has the easiest definitions, but is a little on the small side, then there's Koujien(広辞苑), which is the Japanese dictionary, but the definations are harder, and in my novel reading, I've found Daijisen to have more words that I'm looking for, but Koujien has more 古語-type words and such.
May I suggest getting an EPWING reader instead though, (the iTouch's one is called EBPocket, I think), instead of relying on only one dictionary?

EBPocket is an app that can read dictionaries in EPWING format. So it's handy if you already have dictionaries in that format on your PC, as you can copy them over to your ipod touch. It is written by the same person who developed the EBWin application for the PC. http://www31.ocn.ne.jp/~h_ishida/

The downside to using EBPocket is that you will miss out on the nice kanji input that you get if you buy Daijirin or Daijisen as independent apps.

I might be wrong, but I think the OP already bought the Dajirin app...

@animehunter123, I forgot where to get EPWING dictionaries, so I'll just link to a Panda Cam instead:http://sn.im/t28224w Actually, isn't "sn.im" funny looking? It would probably be better to use the same alphanumeric code with something like "tinyurl.com", wouldn't it? I wonder where that would lead...
Anyway, I find EPWING dictionaries really useful, because you can but them on any device that has EPWING reader software, so I can use the same dictionaries on my Blackberry as on my computer. XD

I've been looking to get either the 大辞林 or the 大辞泉 on my phone for some time now. But one is ~$22 while the other is ~$16 and I don't want to waste the money on one to find out I don't like it. From the screenshots, the 大辞泉 looks a bit more interactive, which I like on the iDevices, plus the + sign indicates it works on the phone and iPad, which is a huge plus.

But the question really boils down to: which is better? Which is newer? Which has more entries? Anyone have the stats, or have both and can give an opinion?
