I learn hiragana/katakana in mid-2009, and I've started RTK in July 09. I've not finished yet.
Since the beginning of the year, I'm listening JapanesePod101.com podcasts.
I'm going to Japan at the end of march month, it motivates me to listen to the podcats and also to finish RTK.
It's going to be a bit difficult since I have at least to double (or triple) my learning rythm, but it's worth the try.
