I got the free version of Expression Encoder. It's not bad. The files are relatively large, but the options are excellent. My PC has a relatively moderate level video card and what I took of TBS looked about the same as what I could actually see on my screen. Only problem is you have to play through the video once to record it (as the tool records what you see on screen), so pre-buffering, etc. is a good idea.

Sure there are tools that can download, but I've used a few and I guess I just trust Microsoft a little bit more. Also, I like that I can do any format that rocks.
Note: Free version only does 10 minute segments, which is fine for me.
