Request: looking for a certain website

#1
I'm looking for a Japanese-learning website I found rather recently. I might have even been linked to it from one of the posts here. I think it was a university professor's site for her students. I distinctly remember vocabulary charts where if you rolled over a word with your mouse, you would see the answer for it. It probably used Javascript, but I'm not sure. I'd mostly like to find the site so I can use the code to make my own site for learning the language.

Tae Kim's site has functionality like that. It just uses <span>s with title attributes, and CSS classes to give them a different color. No JavaScript.

I've never seen anywhere on either Taekim's basic grammar site or on JGram that even remotely looks like what I've described. Perhaps you can give me a direct link?

Sorry nest0r, but that looks nothing like it.

Hover your mouse over any kanji and you'll see a tooltip with the kana reading and English meaning. Is that not the kind of feature you were talking about?

No, I'm not talking about using alt tags. The page displayed a word on the left, and the meaning on the right while hovering the mouse over the word on the left.

Did you have Rikaichan enabled? Maybe you were using Lingoes or StarDict at the time?

Once again, everything I have described appeared on the page itself. No pop ups were involved.

Well, maybe you could describe it in a little more detail, maybe show us a mockup or something? Nobody here seems to know what you're talking about. I'm sure if you described it clearly enough, someone could help you with the JavaScript to do it.

@JimmySeal

Fartman is a bit childish. Don't you think?

@Cyborg Ninja

Mind the tone of your responses.

Admin:

Are you kidding me guys? You're getting negative on someone because of the meaning he picked for his kanji avatar? What is this, communism?

Cybord Ninja, you're more than entitled to choose any kanji you want that is part of the Japanese heritage *rollseyes at everyone else*

No, I got negative on him because he has brusquely dismissed every earnest attempt to help answer his question, while providing very little clarification of what he's looking for, all with a tinge of an 偉そうな attitude. And to top it off, he had a 屁 avatar.
The expressions "Don't bite the hand that feeds you" and "People in glass houses shouldn't throw stones" come to mind.

Cyborg Ninja, you do have a little sharp tongue which may not elicit the best responses.

Lol!

Imagine what could happen to this forum if Fabrice replied in the same manner...

Let's cool down Smile

That's quite alright, I already got my answer from another forum. And they didn't even resort to calling me "fartman" there. LOL

@Fabrice - hehe, yeah, I don't particularly care what avatar someone chooses (That's what Adblock's function is for, in rare cases), nor would I bother making fun, I know JimmySeal's style and figured this thread and the ‘Please use cookies’ thread triggered it, and thus found it worth arching an eyebrow in amusement. Hopefully no one will be dissuaded from choosing whatever kanji they want!

Anyway, I don't want to beat a dead horse, just wanted to make sure you knew where the deleted comments' posters were coming from. ^_^

@Cyborg Ninja - Yes, I see that thread. Your entitled attitude has not changed and you're pretending that JimmySeal's nickname for you was contextless and thus had a very different meaning, in order to smear this forum. I think that's very sad. I hope you'll take a step back and try to have a different attitude in the future.

It's also quite telling that even though they took the time to write you some code and present it to you, rather than thanking them you commented here again about their reply. I hope you at least PM'd them your gratitude.

Well then, by all means please resort to that forum in the future.
