Windows 7 language input

Is it true that you can't install language packs/switch languages in Windows 7 Professional?

I see you can for Enterprise and Ultimate...

I mean, I'm just trying to use regular ol' IME or whatever....but it makes much more sense to just wait till my roommate gets off my Macbook Pro. Just reason ∞+1 not to use Winblows.

All IMEs are available for all editions of Windows. You just need to turn them on in Control Panel > Region and Language. I don't see how you not knowing where the settings are constitutes "reason ∞+1 not to use Winblows".

(I'm not a computer person, so pls don't laugh at my attempt to explain...)

When they talk about certain versions of Win7 not handling the Japanese pack, they're not talking about IME (Japanese input) but about making your OS Japanese, I think. The higher versions allow you to simply choose OS language (like Mac I think?), but the regular versions don't.

There's apparently free software available that will allow you to switch your regular win7 to Japanese, however. I don't have time to search the forum just now, but you'll find a link to it in here. Search for my name or Fabrice's.

Edit: If you're not able to find it, I have the link somewhere. If you're just interested in IME, pls see Jimmy. :-)

Ahh, I see it now. Well that's good, I can keep it at only ∞ reasons not to use Windows. Whew, wouldn't want to get too many!

I'm back on my mac (thank god) now anyways, I was just trying to search for something earlier and I couldn't find it anywhere to copy-paste, and had no way to input it.

I did learn the keyboard shortcuts for making this symbol ∞ though, so that was almost half-way interesting (Option-5 on mac and Alt-2-3-6 on the number pad on Windows).

Thanks for the update. Good to know the number is still exactly half the ∞ * 2 reasons not to use a Mac.

Lol.

To the OP, just for confirmations sake, I have Windows 7 Professional, and I use the Japanese IME everyday.

you can change your whole OS over to Japanese irrespective of what version you have if you use Vistalizor. I've used it on a number of windows 7 installations for myself and friends.

Never had a problem using the Japanese IME in Win7 pro from day one.
