Downloading games in Japanese?

#1
I've noticed that most of the time I try to download any game that's in Japanese it comes up in Gibberish when I try to play it. I recently tried to play 青鬼 and there simply was no text. And the read me files were gibberish. quite some time ago I tried to play
洞窟物語 and that didn't was all gibberish. Is there any way to remedy this? I know you change the encoding and what not in your browser, but I've never done so with normal applications.

Maybe it would help if you set your language for non-unicode programs to Japanese.

Should be about the same for Windows Vista/7

You could also use Applocale

awesome thanks. changing the option for non-unicode programs worked perfectly.

I haven't played too many indie games, but 洞窟物語 was sick. There's a script online here which was helpful for putting things in Anki.

Watch this 10 part series instead of playing 青鬼

I actually did watch all of that series. that made me want to play it myself. And the version I got was actually quite a bit different.

Do you actually get to make use of that seemingly pointless level indicator?
