I've got a huge craving right now to watch stuff about living in Tokyo. I really miss my time living there and want to get back as soon as possible, but in the mean time I guess media will have to do.
So, does anyone here know any good media that centers around life in Japan, preferably from a guy's perspective, but I'm not picky. The more normal and everyday kind of topic the better, but again - I'll take anything.

I mostly watch slice-of-life anime comedies about high school girls, so I do not think that most of what I can recommend fits your requirements, but I think that you might enjoy Lucky Star (らき☆すた). Its characters (predominately female) live in Saitama prefecture, but they go to Tokyo quite often, and even though they are in high school quite a lot of the events take place out of class - in cafés, cinemas, Akihabara shops and other ordinary Tokyo locations.
You might also like Maison Ikkoku (めぞん一刻), a romantic comedy series about a poor student living in a boarding house, hopelessly in love with his landlady. Though it might not be what you need, since it is set in 1980s suburban Tokyo and very little action takes place outside the boarding house.

Strawberry shortcakes (ストロベリーショートケイクス) - lovely movie about four crazy girls, dealing with their insecurities trying to fit in and do their thing. Doesn't really happen much, but it's very normal and everyday, even though they are very uh, eccentric. = )
Parade (パレード) - a movie about five young people living in a small apartment with two bedrooms. Also very everyday, deals with their relationship with each other and their personal lives.
adrift in tokyo (転々)- It's movie about a college student who is in deep yakuza debt. A yakuza thug shows up at his house and promises to free his debt if he walks with him to the police station, to turn himself in for a crime he deeply regrets.
Tokyo sonata - movie about a family living in Tokyo that's slowly crumbling apart after every member has his/her own existential crisis.
Those are the first movies that I can think of. Can't really think of an anime or something explicitly set in Tokyo... And I don't watch drama, so can't help you there. But those movies are really recommended!
Cheers!

Thanks a lot, to both of you!
I also wanted to mention a recent drama + movie combo that I found that is unexpectedly very good: 東京フレンズ
This is mostly because of 大塚愛 and how adorable she is, but the story is nice and the Tokyo atmosphere does it for me. Ah, 下北沢, how I miss thee.

Not sure about specific anime about people living in tokyo. But there are a lot of anime out there that do focus on real-life stuff. Although I still enjoy things like bleach, naruto.
