Getting subtitles back in sync?

#1
Hi all,

Is anyone here familiar with .mkv containers? I have a series in this format, but unfortunately English subs were not included. I downloaded them separately as .srt files and tested them, but since my copy of the series doesn't include the Introduction on each episode, they are woefully out of sync.

Using VLC player, I see an option for nudging the subtitles forward/back in time. But I would rather not sit there and manually adjust 291 episodes. Is there a way to batch them all at the same time?

Also, what is the recommended (free?) program for repackaging the episodes as .mkv files that include the subtitles after I am done?

Thanks in advance.

I believe aegisub is a customary tool for the timing and other editing of subtitles.

As for joining the files, there is always mkvmerge (this is in a package called mkvtoolnix)

Aegisub is free.
I do not believe it has a command line interface.
I do not think it will take you that long per episode. You need to run the command called Shift Times (CTRL+I). Shift it backward 1:30 and see where that gets you.
