Accomplished vs Consummate (frame 552 vs 540)

#1
I'm kind of confused with this one...It sounds like they may be synonyms or something because the kanji for consummate in a kanji dictionary is actually "achieve, accomplish" and Accomplished is kind of the same meaning... Did anyone else have trouble with this one?

I never had much of a problem with this one

Rikaichan pops up 遂 as consummate, accomplish, attain, commit ( suicide )

These are all somewhat similar meanings and consummate gave me the most memorable story.

I never had a problem mixing it up with 達 even though it's "accomplish" ( which I have a GREAT story for ) it's actually commonly used as the plural suffix たち as in 私達 わたしたち (we) as well as the second part of 友達 ともだち for friend (which is singular)

Sometimes the keywords aren't that great, I'll modify them as I need to but it wasn't hard to use them properly even with the english keywords given here.

Consummate... is also used for sexual things. Try working that in, and I guarantee you'll never confuse them again Big Grin

That's when it's used as a verb anyways. It can also be used as an adjective. The pronunciation changes, but it may help you if the first doesn't work.

hm.. I guess it's confusing for me because my kanji dictionary says the character for consummate is 'achieve' and does not mention the other meaning of consummate, while accomplished means 'attained, achieved'. Well, I was only worried because, to me they had the same meaning but different image in my head...and I was wondering if it would be confusing later on if I were learn the readings or when I'm writing, which one would I use? But as long as you say it won't be a problem, Dustin then I'll take your word for it. =) What was your story for Accomplish anyway?

Dolly (the first cloned sheep ever) grow tired of being a celebrity and escaped from the labs by digging a tunnel. She turned out to be an ACCOMPLISHED escapist, as she managed to dig a road under the soil. /Imagine Dolly performing a escape, like those movies where the main character has to escape from jail.

It took a couple of rounds to really get it stuck, but now it's one of the easiest kanji in the book ^_^
