rikaichan no longer works in Google docs?

#1
Can anyone confirm if rikaichan no longer works in Google docs?

Also, I used to be able to set the popup delay time, but that option seems to be missing as well now.

I'm looking for an easy way to type a document and check my spelling and such as I go along.

It works fine, just tried it. I have firefox beta 4b7, with rikaichan 2.01.

oh and the popup time setting in firefox:

type about:config in the address bar and hit enter. Press 'I'll be careful'. Search for the key 'rikaichan.popdelay' and change the integer value as you like.

Hmm... what the heck. I tried on both my PC and Mac and I can't get anything to popup in a Google doc. Rikaichan 2.01 and latest Release Firefox.

I just tried it on my work computer too, and it doesn't work there either. Is there something special I need to do in google or something to get it to recognize rikaichan?

Is anyone else *not* seeing it work?

Got an example?

Just in case... it's an OCR'd document or one with selectable text you're trying it out on, right? ;p

PS - It works for me.

Oh... hmm. I meant a document I was actively typing - nothing that's already been published. Sorry, I guess I didn't think about the fact that "google doc" could mean many things.

Has anyone tried to type a new document at docs.google.com and been able to use rikaichan *while* typing?

What did you guys try it on?

@breravin: It's the same for me, rikaichan doesn't work in an active document, otherwise everything is fine.

Heh, ok, assuming that's standard, that's sort of a relief - I've been trying to get this to work for hours. It's too bad though, rikaichan seems to work fine with other text inputs (such as posting on this forum - I can check my text immediately)

Doesn't work for me while typing—perhaps, if it works for Blahah, it requires 2.01 and 4b7?

StarDict works, but that's because I only use 'scan clipboard' for StarDict, toggled by hotkey. If you use AutoCopy add-on (it has keyboard shortcuts to turn on/off and 'enable for text boxes' option), you can just use that while typing in Google Docs and StarDict will pop-up definitions when you select text.

Edit: Edit n/m AutoCopy doesn't seem to work in Google Docs either. ;p But you can always manually copy for StarDict. ;p I primarily just use StarDict manually for clipboard because I don't see the point of having popups all over the text rather than a few select words. Especially if you're typing and already know the words, presumably.

I think it probably doesn't work while typing for Blahah either - I tried the firefox beta with no success.

But you're right, if you're typing, chances are you know the words, but I like being able to check in some cases where I think I know the word, but am not positive.

Well then, StarDict + Dictionaries @ TPB... ("babylon stardict"). "Some cases" is where it shines! Select, ctrl+c, ctrl+alt+x to toggle the pop-up.

Yeah sorry I was talking about reading documents, not editing them. Rikaichan doesn't work for me in gdocs whilst editing. Looks like StarDict is the best option here as nest0r says. Or you can use the rikaichan lookup bar - this would be my preference as StarDict is hella ugly.

Huh, ugly? It sits invisibly in your system tray, and the pop-up window can be customized to look exactly like Rikaichan's if you want. For me, I have it set up to have the same colour as this site's paler background. I customized the size and transparency just how I like also.

And I haven't used it, but someone posted a Japanese StarDict-compatible dictionary that apparently has a bunch of pictures.

Hmmph. Your (insert living healthy parent here)'s ugly.

There's also FloatFox add-on with its search function and the various dictionary add-ons and keywording we discussed in that "Cool dictionaries" thread. As well as Globefish Language Tool with its phrase validation and dictionary lookup/Google Translate options, plus there's Translation Aggregator with text-hooking, parsing, and dictionaries.
