Christmas Donations for Fabrice

#1
I finished RTK 1 three weeks ago. Time for a donation. I am not rich, so I try to mobilize as many people as possible until December 25th to make a donation for Fabrice, as a Christmas present.

I just donated €10,00. If I can get 50 people to do the same we get a nice sum for Fabrice.

Dec 31: "Wulfgar's all or nothing extravaganza 3.0" has just started!!!

If we make it to €1900 by DEC 31 11:59 CST -6GMT wulfgar will donate €101 to pass the €2000 mark!!!!

This is the updated total of all donations so far:

€1,535 / $2,032.95 / £1,1285.19 / 170,078円

we're €365 from meeting the chalenge.

Thank you for your donation!

Please do the following:

1. Reply here in this thread and let us know the amount you're donating

2. Immediately do so via the "Donate" link at the top right on the ReV the Kanji start page.

3. Subscribe to the thread so you're always up to date

C'mon guys and gals, €5, €10, €20 - anything you can afford - I'm sure every student can afford €5 for a great site we all spend so much time on, and that has been so helpful to all of us.

That's a couple of beers - you wouldn't hesitate for a second to buy a beer or two on a Friday night, right??

So, just do it! If you never donated - now's the time to make a difference, especially after all the hard work Fabrice has put into the custom keywords... If you donated before, then just do it again, this is a great community and we owe it to Fabrice. Think of all the money you'd have to spend on lessons and classes without this community!

I'll keep this thread alive and up on the "Recent Topics" list until December 25th. We're aiming for €500 - let's show the world there is a Santa Claus!

20 EUR donated (actually I did it a few days ago and meant to start this thread myself). Merry xmas ファブリス, hope you have a good one. Thanks for making a home for us while we all pretend to learn Japanese.

truando you should keep a total in the initial post.

Maybe keeping track of a total isn't that important. True, I was surprised to learn Fabrice gets only 15 donations a month for about 1500 regular users of RevTK (but the site is free after all).
Point is, if you can get 50 people (or more!) to donate this month, that would be a great achievement already. No need to stress out the numbers, isn't there?
Who, me? I already donated last month or so. Maybe I'll do a gesture if I'm in a Xmas mood...

Oh, I think the total is very important - it's motivating!

After all, the totals of 2042 and 3007 respectively kept us motivated, no?

Thanks Blahah! I guess I don't count EratiK's donation for now, but still, thanks.

I'll update the total in the initial post!

Just donated 10 euros. I'm very glad to see a thread like this and I completely agree that the numbers really make a difference with its motivation factor. For example, someone sees that 190 euros have been donated so far and thinks, "If I donate an extra 10, we'll reach 200," since as humans, we tend to think in round numbers and see them as milestones and all.

I think donation should be linked to post count. I gave 20 and have 458 posts, so nest0r, with 3486 posts, should stump up around 143 EUR. When you're ready, nest0r...

OK, I'll just make it an even 1000. Oh wait, I don't celebrate Christmas, out of memory for all of the slaughtered conifers.

I know I'm a pain in the ass, but there hasn't been a donation in what 24 hours, and if we want to get to € 500 by Christmas we better hurry!

Please donate for Fabrice - thank you!

I don't think we can gather 50 donations. There were ~1830 users logged in the past week. The number of people in position to donate is just a proportion of the reach of the website. Going for a conservative 1% of users, that would be a realistic target of 20 donations.

It did receive close to 450 € one month, while I was running my "India trip" donation run, but there was a big bold banner on the forum and the main site. Smile

RevTK is in a very small "niche" to the best of my understanding. After five years, the userbase doesn't drop but it doesn't grow significantly either. That said, the forum monthly visits have been growing steadily since January.

Anyway, I'm currently living on my savings so every little bit helps Smile

We didn't think we could learn 2042 Kanji, as most of the learners of Japanese just give up around 500 or so - yet we did Smile

Let us believe we can reach the target until December 24th. Maybe someone will be very generous?

All the best - truando

Another 10 euros in the pot from me. After 20 years(!) attempting to learn kanji on and off, this site (and anki) enabled me to learn and retain all the kanji required for N2.

Merry Xmas, Fabrice!
