Is inaccurate really the right word? It seems to me that it's not that it's inaccurate, it's that it's based on anecdotal evidence. Inaccurate would mean that it's an assertion that is incorrect, but rather we have an assertion and we don't really know whether it's correct or not.

Personally, the Japanese women I've been with are more passive than the American women I've been with. But the behaviour of a small number of women--all from the same general area and who fell for the same man--obviously aren't representative of a country as a whole.

Saying someone is bad at sex is really subjective. Even the word 'passive' is a little bit too vague. I would use the word passive from my personal experiences, but it's not really so black and white. Sorry to get into my sex life a bit too much, but my experience is that I do similar things in bed with American girls and Japanese girls, it's just that the American girls have initiated those things themselves more often. So in my experience both groups have been equally active in what they actually do, but Japanese girls have not been nearly as active in initiating it.

At any rate, I enjoy my sex life in Japan.

And, I agree that it's ridiculous to say that because people have less sex on average they are worse at sex. Probably people have less sex on average in Japan because they see each other less often. I know a lot of couples that only meet about two times a month.

I'm with Womacks. Jgirls are starfish. Biased generalisation? Of course it is! But this is an internet forum not a university seminar.

I do believe (comparatively) Japanese people have very little sex too. Some of the lowest in the developed world. Not surprising really considering the long hours they work.

Please don't ask me for a link, I read it a while ago in the paper. It seems like it's getting to the point where to even post a POV on an internet forum you need to have evidence to back it up. Heh. Western Women are different in that they more actively (desperately) strive to extract a decent sexual performance from their menfolk. Western Men are more easily pleased (i.e. completion in seconds, which results in more sexual 'sessions' and of which they report high satisfaction with on the scientific sexology studies deployed online).

If you're trying to indicate that you're a slave to common media narratives about Japan (often predictions/explanations regarding the birthrate figures) and loosely associating your subjective stereotypes with such sources and secondhand survey data as 'support', I already got that ages ago. ^_-

"Legit" is one word for it, and just the first of many.

Well, even down at the pub, Slivir, I think it's okay to try to avoid certain generalizations. Folks here do manage to share personal opinion and anecdotes. I think its just the categorical statements that trigger the "don't generalize" finger wagging. I find the boldest assertions are sometimes more parody than ignorance. I think the forum strikes a reasonable balance. :-)

Maybe there are other factors at play as well? Marriage roles, overwork, lack of opportunity for more satisfying sessions, more working women, arranged marriage, lack of privacy, children nearby, attitudes towards sex, judgmental neighbours, independence/role of women, the birth control pill isn't as common, don't enjoy condoms, abortion issues, rate of adultery, rate of paid sex, sexual education, availability of pornography, quality of love hotels, etc. Who knows?

So to sum things up then: Japanese are bad at sex ...when they're with westerners. It's a function of cultural difference, so the survey on Japanese couples' sexual satisfaction isn't applicable after all. Mixed couples have bad sex. Glad we got that all sorted out.
