Anki RTK1 Shared Deck: Adding learned cards manually?

#1
Hello,

Apologies for the newbie question.. I've searched for answers but would still like to clarify something..

I'm using the pre-made Heisig shared deck on Anki. Since I don't study the same number of kanji each day, I don't want it to automatically add 20 (or whatever number) every day. So, what is the best way to manually add new cards each day?

Currently I have 'suspended' the whole deck and then 'unsuspend' new cards as I learn them. Is this the correct way? (I don't want to mess up any of the SRS card data by incorrectly using the suspend feature).

Thanks for any clarification!

Cheers Smile

That's exactly how I did it and it works just fine. I used to add the odd number of Kanji of the day by unsuspending them, and I had "100" at the settings for new cards so the new unsuspended cards (e.g. 25) would be guaranteed to appear when reviewing.

I hope you understand what I mean.

Good luck on your voyage!

Ah, thanks.

I thought I could set 'new cards per day' to 0 and they'd still be added when unsuspended.

Maybe you can, I didn't try that. Either way, have fun!

No, zero new cards per day means it won't show you new cards. Since you're suspending the cards you don't want it to show you, just set new cards per day to something huge.

Anki will keep showing you new cards until it runs out of unsuspended new cards or it hits its daily limit, whichever comes first.

ZIGMONTY is wrong, you can add cards at your own pace. Just put the "new cards per day" to 0 and then do your reviews, when you no longer have reviews left a new option replaces "continue reviewing" which is something like "add new cards".

After that ANKI starts asking you Kanji from where you left off similarly to reviewing but new kanji. You can stop adding cards with the clock button next to magnifying glass.

I have done this for a while now and yes its very possible.

Do not put new cards per day to something huge or you'll be messing your anki deck. It will start showing you new kanji that you have not yet learned and crumble you with the ammount of reviews.
