Anki for a newbie...

#1
Hello, all!

I've just started with RTK (and this Reviewing the Kanji website), and I'm really motivated to see it through to the end. I'm up to about number 165 or so (lesson 8), and the web-based review on this site is quite good.

HOWEVER, I've recently discovered Anki, and would like to try this out as well. Trouble is I don't know how to go about this! I've seen the previous thread about Anki (http://forum.koohii.com/showthread.php?tid=553), but for now at least it's TOO much information. My main question is this: are there existing Anki-friendly card sets that I can load into Anki, and then review much like this site? Where can I find these cards? I've no clue how to make them myself.

Thanks in advance!

I think the general consensus is that people use this site for the kanji as it's specifically geared towards it (especially the shared stories). After completing RTK1 you can move onto using Anki for your sentence/vocab needs.

Anki cards are quite easy to make yourself - just click add cards, then type in the question/prompt and answer (Anki will fill in the kana). For RTK kanji, I find it much easier to use this site, as Mighty_Matt says. If you're looking for non-RTK decks though, there are probably some available - Anki can import from some other flashcard programs (at least Mnemosyne that I know of), so decks made for other programs may work as well. I haven't used any premade decks myself, but I imagine that you could find them for common vocabulary lists, like those for the JLPT tests.
