But then the manga isn't exactly the same as the drama so maybe that's a good balance. These were ライフ and ノダメカンタービレ.

I have both an iTouch and an Android phone, and have dictionaries installed on both. So far, I'm using manga I have.in English partially because I'm still so behind in grammar and vocabulary that it's easier to have an equivalent to compare it to.
Maybe I should do my original? Then I really can get used to not knowing 100% what's going on. Guess it makes more sense. I'll do that, then.
Also, should I put words/sentences from the manga into my SRS?

One of the earlier manga I read was _Basara_; I'd read the first six or so volumes in English, and going through those again in Japanese just felt really tedious at times. Once I'd got into new story I had more incentive to keep reading...Indeed. Recently I picked up a youth novel in Japanese at the library and when I was about 10 pages in I found the original English copy. So I made the mistake of reading the English version first, and promptly lost all motivation to read the Japanese. I just didn't feel like reading a book I had just read, and already knew what would happen.

So I figured I'd update a little, since I have commitment issues and have trouble sticking to one method for long (loooveeellyyyy).
I ended up switching from Tae Kim to Japanese the Manga Way, and found a pdf version so I've started pulling the panels into the cards so that the context is still there (which makes it sooooo much easier to remember the shorter sentences).
I'm about 800 into core 2k (kore), and liking it. I haven't had much time to read lately (exams, papers, finals, etc) so I've mostly been focusing on maintaining Anki. Plan to mine/go through the humongous DoB/I/AG deck once done with Japanese the manga way, but at my own leisure. Probably will create a new deck for vocab from manga (plan to read the four or so I have in Japanese but not English).
I also have a child's dictionary that is all in hiragana...but it lists the word, shows a picture, describes it in Japanese, and gives an example sentence. I figure it'll help vocabulary at least, and it's cute and fun to read (my Japanese friend gave it to me a while ago since she got it when she was little). I may or may not SRS stuff out of here - not sure if it was too early to go "monolingual". Obviously, these would go a lot slower, since I'd have to understand quite a bit more...
Anyways, that's what I'm up to so far, I guess. Juggling exams, papers, presentations, and finals in a couple weeks, so trying not to spend /too/ much time on Japanese, as much as I would love to. Hope to finish mining Japanese the Manga Way by...hm...end of December, maybe early January? I'm already 120 frames through. Then again, I don't enter /every/ sentence in - just the ones I like/want to remember.

What I like about the DG series is that if there are similar grammar structures, it explains the nuances and gives you sentences where one point works and one does not.

Read,read,read?=learn how to read?
For me I usual srs(finish all my reps) and just read a lot outside/watch videos that have jp subtitles. Works pretty well. Not sure why but I have a passion for reading Japanese stuff. I guess it's just more interesting to read than english for now.
