Greeting my fellow language learners!

I seem to constantly stumble upon situations where I get the chance to meet Japanese people in my neighbourhood. And so it was through a series of fortunate events that I have recently got myself a small side-job as to teach Dutch to a 9 year old chibi. Once a week for one/two hour(s).

He has only lived in Belgium about a year, and is still quite a newbie in Dutch... Which makes my job harder. (He's also quite shy.) I've tried reading some comics together, but it is quite hard it seems...

So here I am asking you guys some pointers! Any fun things I can do / use / apply?
I feel that with small kids it's no use to get started about anki... xP

maybe if the cartoon is both available in Japanese and Dutch. Make him watch the Japanese one first than the Dutch one. or the other way.

I don't really know hehe. Just shooting some idea of here Ill try to think of more ! hehe

Just show him a video of the 1972 European Cup Final.

Convince the kid to do Dutch homework without him knowing it's "homework". More specifically, get him to do something fun in Dutch while your not around. This should help a lot.

SRS is probably a bad idea for a kid, but you can try to make sure he gets repetition in some other fashion. Force review on him manually.

Like loonytik, I don't really know what will work. Just try things out and see what sticks.
